his proposed vacation residence is located along Cape Bretons scenic Bras dOr Lakes. Ultimately, this residence was designed to feel solid and simple, effectively integrating with the beautiful hillside and forest surroundings.
The two-storey floor plan is organized into three distinct bays to provide for open and airy living spaces. The exterior massing is punctuated with recessed decks and glass balconies. Proposed construction materials include metal roofing, cedar shingles, and vinyl clad windows.
The design language of this residence, focuses on exploring alternate roof treatments, rather than a conventional trussed roof. Gently-curved, alternating barrel surfaces sweep from the front to back of the structure, providing spatial qualities not typically utilized in summer residences. The curved roof treatments help to frame and direct waterfront views, create multi-storey spaces, and anchor the home to the site.
