esigned in 1996, the mandate of this 50-unit apartment project was to create a downtown, high-rise, housing tower, on an embankment overlooking Sydney Harbour. The project would link the lower storeys of the apartment complex to an existing, waterfront boardwalk and marina.
The structural frame was to be poured-in-place concrete with decorative, precast, concrete, wall panels. Situated near the historic northend of the City of Sydney, the pre-cast panels and roof forms were designed to evoke a traditional, "Chateau" theme. The architecture attempts to evoke the Beaux-Arts style of expressing, in concrete, the dichotomy between the decorative ideals of society, and the building's structural needs.
The design incorporated indoor parking, a health club, meeting rooms, recreation rooms, a convenience store, and an outdoor sundeck.
Alas, the grim reality of economic constraints, as well as and local housing market conditions, prevented the project from being realized. The site, to date, is still undeveloped. |
