his 1992 police-facility proposal was to be located on the main street of historic North Sydney. The Town of North Sydney's old-world architecture is characterized by its proximity to the sea, and the former prosperity generated from the fisheries industry.
The mandate of this proposal was to design a small, 1,500 square-foot, vernacular, police/jail facility for a small Maritime town.
The thematic facade treatment follows the Greek and Roman precedents of the British/Colonial Maritime Architecture, historically prevalent in public buildings of Nova Scotia at the turn of the century.
As a result of municipal restructuring, and the regionalization of police services into a larger, centralized facility at another location, the project was never built. |
